This vocabulary is used to talk about Space explorations and investigations.
We need to ask why Paul devotes so much space to the subject in writing to the Corinthians, while saying little about it to other churches.
Space - all room around us, including the galaxy and solar system
Planet A large, round object that orbits a star and shines as it reflects the star’ light. | Moon A small body of rocky material that orbits a planet. | Telescope A special tool which is used to look at stars, planets and other objects in outer space. |
Spaceship A vehicle that travels in outer space, often with astronauts on board. | Alien Unlike any other, a strange race from outer space or planet. | Astronaut A person that travels and works in space. |
Star A huge glowing ball of gas in outer space. | Constellation A grouped star combination which makes different symbols and ornaments. | Satellite A machine that rotates around the Earth and sends data back to the planet. |
Rocket A spacecraft that can be shot into outer space. | Space shuttle A spacecraft for carrying people and supplies between Earth and outer space. | Galaxy A huge group of stars in outer space. |
Crater A hole in the ground made after meteoroid hitting it. | Meteor A small piece of rock that has entered the Earth's atmosphere, usually making a bright streak of light in the sky. |
Some examples:
A rocket is the type of plane that astronauts used to use to fly into space. Now they are used to leave satellites in orbit around the Earth. It has a special cylindrical shape so that it can go very fast for a long distance.
The sun is the star in the middle of our solar system.
Some telescopes are very powerful and can be used to see thousands of light years away. There are many large powerful telescopes in the north of Chile.
Astronauts need to wear space suits because it is very cold in space and they do not have oxygen to breath.
