Read the text «Social etiquette in the UK».
British people are well-known for their good manners, language and good sense of humor. It's important to follow etiquette rules when you in the UK.
For example, Brits are pretty reserved — when you meet a person for the first time, you greet them with a handshake. You can hug or kiss on the cheek only close friends or relatives. There are also a lot of affectionate names: darling, dear or mate. That's quite fine, so don't take offence.
The Brits care about their privacy, so not all topics of conversation are good for small talk.
It's better not to ask people about their salary, weight or age and talk about politics or religion. Small talk topics as culture, family, sport, food and weather are acceptable.
Don't be late when visiting people at home. Also it's nice to bring something for your hosts - some flowers, a bottle of good wine or some chocolate.
Although a Brit may say 'come and see me soon’ or ‘drop in anytime', you should always give this person a call before a visit.
