British people have three or four meals a day. Breakfast is the earliest meal of the day. The British have it at about 8 o'clock in the morning.
A traditional breakfast is a big meal with sausages, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms… But such a large breakfast is not very healthy. Nowadays, many people prefer cornflakes with milk or a toast with honey or jam for breakfast. Some people have a cup of coffee in the morning, but the traditional breakfast drink is tea. The British love tea with cold milk, and they often drink between three and seven cups of tea a day.
Lunch is a quick meal. The usual time to have it is one o'clock. Some people prefer a meat or fish sandwich and salad. School-children can have a hot meal at school, but many of them take a snack from home – a sandwich, a drink, some yoghurt or fruit.
Some British people have afternoon tea. “Tea” means a drink and a meal. The British have afternoon tea with sandwiches, cakes and a cup of tea, of course.
The main meal is dinner, which is usually between 6 and 7 p.m. when the whole family gets together. People can have soup, meat or fish with a lot of vegetables, and a dessert, of course. 
The British like food from other countries, too, especially Italian, French, Chinese and Indian. People often get take-away meals — you buy food at a restaurant and then bring it home to eat. Eating in Britain is quite international.
